A Mumbai court has acquitted an Army Major allegedly linked to Operation Sindoor and his parents of cruelty allegations filed by his wife, concluding a decade-long case. The couple married in 2012, with the officer originally from Himachal Pradesh. After his posting to Mumbai, their relationship deteriorated.
The wife accused him of physical abuse, mental torture, freezing a joint bank locker containing her jewellery, and demanding ₹15 lakh to purchase property in Pune. Allegations also included verbal taunts by his parents, denial of proper food or medical care during her pregnancy, and undue household work. It was also noted a divorce decree had been passed last year, and she had already been receiving maintenance (about ₹40 lakh over ten years), with the military court terminating that provision upon presenting the decree.
Given the absence of credible evidence, non-appearance of the complainant, and procedural issues, the court found in favour of the accused, acquitting them of all charges.
