Ukraine, July 12, 2025 – A massive overnight assault by Russian forces targeted western Ukraine with 597 drones, decoys, and 26 cruise missiles, resulting in at least two fatalities and 14 injuries in the Bukovina area of Chernivtsi due to falling drone debris, according to regional Governor Ruslan Zaparaniuk.

Simultaneous strikes hit Lviv, wounding nine, and Kharkiv, injuring three residents, amid one of Russia’s most sustained aerial offensives since the war began. Ukraine’s air defenses successfully intercepted 319 drones and 25 cruise missiles, while jamming 258 decoys. 

President Zelenskyy urged Western allies for stricter sanctions and enhanced air defense systems, warning that only decisive action can curb the escalating strikes. On the Polish border, the intensity triggered NATO and Polish fighter jets to scramble, highlighting regional security risks. The surge coincides with Russia's broader push to break through Ukraine's extensive frontline, as this campaign targets both military hubs and civilian centers. Ukrainian officials describe June as the deadliest month in three years, with ongoing casualties underscoring the conflict’s harsh toll on civilians.
