A devastating Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad has claimed 297 lives, marking one of the deadliest aviation disasters in India’s history.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, flight AI171, was en route to London with 242 onboard, including 230 passengers and 12 crew. It crashed shortly after takeoff, slamming into a nearby medical college hostel and killing 56 additional people. Only one passenger survived.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the crash site and Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, where the injured are being treated. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and Gujarat CM also assessed the damage.
Air India has set up assistance centers in India and London for grieving families, while a high-level committee has been formed to investigate the crash. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will assist in the probe.
Public outrage and calls for accountability are rising as the nation mourns this horrific tragedy.
