Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a four-day diplomatic tour of the United Kingdom and the Maldives, beginning July 23 and concluding July 26, with a key focus on advancing the India–UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) and finalizing the long-awaited Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
In the UK, Modi is set to sign the landmark India‑UK FTA, which grants zero tariffs on 99% of Indian exports - including textiles and electric vehicles - and substantially lowers duties on British goods like Scotch whisky and cars ([turn0news12]; [turn0search3]; [turn0search0]). He will meet UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and call on King Charles III. Discussions will span trade, technology, defence, climate, education, and diaspora-led ties.
Next, Modi heads to the Maldives on July 25–26 as the Guest of Honour for the nation’s 60th Independence Day celebrations. This marks his first visit to the Maldives under President Mohamed Muizzu. Agenda highlights include reviewing progress under the Joint Vision for Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership, part of India's Neighbourhood First and Vision MAHASAGAR policies .
The visit underscores India’s bid to deepen economic, development, and defence collaboration with both nations, reaffirming its commitment to strategic and regional diplomacy.
