A magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck Haryana's Jhajjar district on Thursday, July 10, causing tremors across the Delhi-NCR region. According to the National Center for Seismology, the quake occurred at 8:27 AM, with the epicentre located 3 km northeast of Jhajjar and about 51 km west of Delhi.
Tremors lasted for several seconds and were felt in parts of Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, and Faridabad, prompting brief panic among residents. Many took to social media to share their experience, though no immediate reports of damage or injuries were confirmed.
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) stated that emergency protocols were activated as a precaution and urged citizens to remain alert and follow safety advisories in case of aftershocks. Experts noted that while quakes of this magnitude are moderate, the dense population of the region makes even minor seismic activity highly noticeable.
This is the second noticeable tremor in the region in the past two months, underscoring the need for improved earthquake preparedness in urban zones.
