In a crime story that reads like a thriller, Nagpur police have arrested Sameera Fatima, a 35-year-old government-school teacher accused of marrying eight men in succession and extorting lakhs from each through emotional manipulation and legal threats (turn0search1).
Posing as a widowed teacher on matrimonial sites and social media, Fatima targeted married men—primarily from the Muslim community—gaining their trust before registering formal marriages (turn0search1). After marriage, she allegedly coerced her victims with edited voice clips, false complaints of adultery and harassment, and then demanded money in exchange for dropping charges—extorting amounts ranging up to ₹50 lakh (turn0search1). One husband alone reportedly paid ₹10 lakh via cheque.
Fatima’s arrest came via a sting operation executed by her latest husband, Ghulam Pathan, in collaboration with Nagpur police. He lured her under the pretext of settling a legal complaint, leading to her capture at a Nagpur tea shop (turn0news14). She remains legally married to all eight husbands, with multiple FIRs filed across different police stations. Investigations continue, including inquiries into the total amount defrauded and whether she had accomplices .
