Former India left-arm spinner Dilip Rasiklal Doshi tragically passed away on June 23, 2025, in London due to a cardiac arrest, aged 77 . Doshi, who played 33 Tests (114 wickets) and 15 ODIs (22 wickets) between 1979–1983, was celebrated for his impeccable control and classical spin.
He is fondly remembered for his heroic performance in the 1981 Melbourne Test, where he took five wickets playing through a fractured toe, anchoring India to a historic victory . Beyond international cricket, Doshi claimed 898 first-class wickets - including 43 five-wicket hauls - for Bengal, Saurashtra, and English counties Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire.
The cricket world is in mourning. Sachin Tendulkar recalled their meetings in English nets, calling him a "warm‑hearted soul", while Ravi Shastri and Anil Kumble praised both his skill and gentlemanly demeanour . Born in Rajkot on December 22, 1947, Doshi was one of the rare spinners to debut for India after age 30 and still cross the 100‑wicket milestone, an elite company with only three others. His legacy of dedication, resilience, and sporting excellence leaves a deep void in Indian cricket.
