In the wake of a tragic stampede during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has dismissed his political secretary, K. Govindaraju. The incident at M Chinnaswamy Stadium resulted in 11 fatalities and numerous injuries, sparking widespread criticism over the government's handling of the event.
Govindaraju, a close aide to the Chief Minister and a Member of the Legislative Council, was relieved of his duties amid mounting political pressure and public outrage .
The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified calls for accountability, demanding the resignations of CM Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, and Home Minister G. Parameshwara, citing negligence in ensuring public safety .
In response, the government has suspended several top police officials, including Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B. Dayanand, and initiated legal action against event organizers associated with RCB and the Karnataka State Cricket Association.
Govindaraju has denied any involvement in advising against the parade, stating that his remarks were misinterpreted . His removal underscores the administration's efforts to address the crisis and restore public trust amid escalating political tensions.
