Young professionals in India are no longer chasing traditional job security. According to Randstad India’s latest report, Gen Z (born 1997–2007) is prioritising better pay, flexibility, and purpose over long-term tenure. This generation values autonomy, adaptability, and alignment with personal values, making career choices based on growth and meaningful work rather than perks or extra leave.
The survey of 750 Indian respondents highlights that remote work, travel opportunities, and side hustles are strong retention drivers. Gen Z is also highly tech-savvy, with 82% enthusiastic about AI and 52% actively learning through AI tools, though 44% worry about AI’s long-term impact on jobs.
“Employers who foster inclusive cultures, lifelong learning, and flexible policies will attract and retain Gen Z talent,” says Viswanath PS, MD & CEO, Randstad India.
Unlike previous generations, Gen Z is less about tenure and more about balance, growth, and purpose. For companies, this shift isn’t a challenge-it’s a huge opportunity to build a resilient, future-ready workforce.
