Prime Minister Narendra Modi boldly proclaimed during a Cyprus business roundtable on June 15, 2025, that India is on the fast track to becoming the world’s third-largest economy. Speaking in Limassol alongside President Nikos Christodoulides, he emphasized that India’s success hinges on building investor trust and enhancing the ease of doing business.
The visit, part of a wider diplomatic tour encompassing Canada and Croatia, also spotlighted the India–Middle East–Europe Corridor (IMEC) initiative. Modi and Cyprus leaders discussed leveraging the island as a strategic gateway to Europe via this multi-modal corridor .
At the roundtable, representatives from banking, finance, defence, logistics, AI, and maritime sectors reaffirmed strong bilateral interest. Plans for trilateral cooperation involving Greece were also unveiled, aimed at boosting financial and trade ties .
Modi's confident remarks come as India solidifies its global economic stance, transitioning from the world's 11th to 5th-largest economy in recent years . His Cyprus declaration signals India's aspirations and readiness to join the top three - underpinned by strategic reforms and global connectivity visions.
