When Mohd Suhail looked around Delhi, he saw the mounting problem of plastic waste and knew he wanted to do more than just raise awareness. In 2020, he founded Athar Packaging Solutions with one clear mission: transform industrial plastic waste into sustainable packaging. Over the past three years, his startup has diverted 200 tonnes of plastic from being dumped into landfills, rivers, or burning pits.
By focusing on three types of plastics - LDPE, BOPP and LD plastics - Suhail’s team modified existing machinery and developed a process to convert waste into high-quality pouches, zippers and other packaging products. For each tonne of plastic recycled, they estimate preventing 1.5 tonnes of CO₂ emissions - meaning nearly 300 tonnes of CO₂ savings so far.
Starting with a small profit margin to gain customer trust, Athar has grown to serve more than 700 businesses across 60 cities in India. Suhail’s journey proves that environmental responsibility and business viability aren’t mutually exclusive - and that real impact can begin with a determined local entrepreneur.
