In Bengaluru, artist-animators Rahil Mohsin and Alankrita Amaya have launched Hallubol, a comic-and-motion graphics initiative that champions the Dakhni language and culture. The series captures everyday humour, identity, cultural pride and bilingual fluidity - with characters speaking Dakhni in Roman script while the world around them shows Kannada, Telugu, English and more.
The creators say Dakhni is “not merely slang or broken Urdu” but a rich language in its own right, blending words from Marathi, Kannada, Persian and regional tongues. Their work began with stories grounded in lived experience - for example, “Biryani Khaane Jayinge” follows three friends on a whirlwind food-and-history ride through rural Karnataka.
Beyond entertainment, the project seeks to reshape narratives about South-Indian Muslim life, counter stereotypes and preserve linguistic heritage. With illustrations, motion-comics, multilingual interplay and a distinct cultural voice, Hallubol stands out as a creative movement rooted in community, laughter and belonging.
