The ongoing monsoon in Himachal Pradesh has turned catastrophic, with the death toll now rising to 80. Relentless rainfall has triggered massive landslides, flash floods, and infrastructure collapse, severely impacting the hill state.
According to officials, heavy rains over the past few days have swept away homes, roads, and bridges. Several districts, including Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, and Solan, have been the worst hit. Rescue teams have been deployed, and the Indian Army, NDRF, and local administration are working tirelessly to evacuate residents and provide relief.
Many areas remain cut off due to damaged roads and disrupted communication lines. The state government has declared a disaster in certain regions and is urging tourists and locals to avoid travel to affected zones.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu described the situation as “unprecedented,” stating that the state has not witnessed such widespread destruction in decades. Temporary relief shelters have been set up, and compensation for the victims’ families has been announced.
As Himachal Pradesh continues to battle the monsoon’s wrath, authorities are prioritizing rescue, medical support, and restoration of essential services, though continued rain poses further risks.
