Himachal on red alert: 260+ Roads shut amid monsoon fury!

Heavy monsoon rains continue to wreak havoc across Himachal Pradesh, with over 260 roads closed and landslides reported in multiple regions. The local MeT department has issued a ‘red’ alert for July 6, forecasting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Kangra, Sirmaur, and Mandi districts.

The warning advises residents to avoid travel to hilly areas, as fresh landslides and flash floods are likely. Authorities have urged tourists and locals to stay indoors and remain vigilant, especially near riverbanks and unstable slopes.

Traffic remains disrupted across key stretches, including several national and state highways, affecting connectivity to remote villages and tourist hubs. Emergency teams, including NDRF and state disaster forces, are on standby, and control rooms have been activated in all vulnerable districts.

The weather office has also flagged potential risks of falling trees, urban flooding, and damage to crops and infrastructure. Officials are closely monitoring river levels as the situation remains fluid. Residents have been asked to follow advisories and stay tuned for further weather updates.
