A private bus carrying around 25 passengers veered off the Mandi–Jahu road near Patrighat in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district and plunged approximately 200 meters into a deep gorge on the morning of June 17, 2025. Emergency responders quickly arrived, launching an intense rescue mission to extract survivors and administer medical aid .
Initial reports confirm that between 20 and 25 individuals sustained injuries, with some passengers still trapped inside the wreckage. Authorities have transported the injured to local hospitals for treatment, though detailed information on their conditions remains limited .
The accident underscores the persistent dangers of mountain roads in Himachal Pradesh, especially during the pre-monsoon season when terrain becomes slippery and treacherous. Local officials are investigating the cause - whether driver error, mechanical failure, or road conditions contributed. Rescue teams, supported by police and medical staff, continue to work at the site, aiming to reach all victims as swiftly as possible.
State disaster management has emphasized the critical need for improved road safety and infrastructure to prevent such recurring tragedies.
