Heavy rains, waterlogging cripple Delhi traffic during morning rush!

Heavy rainfall on Wednesday morning brought the national capital and its surrounding NCR areas to a near standstill. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for northeast and southeast Delhi, alongside an orange alert for northwest and southwest districts, warning of moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms .

Vehicles struggled in knee-deep water on key roads such as NH‑8, ITO, Mehrauli‑Gurgaon Road, Mahamaya flyover, and East of Kailash. Waterlogging caused severe traffic snarls during office hours; motorists and two-wheeler riders either halted under flyovers or trudged through the flooded streets . The Airport and railway authorities issued advisories for passengers, although flight operations remained largely unaffected .

The storms provided short relief from Delhi's oppressive heat and improved air quality—AQI levels dipped into the moderate range. However, residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay alert to weather updates, as the monsoon remains active with more rain expected later this week.
