Greta Thunberg detained in Israel after Madleen seized

A Gaza-bound humanitarian ship carrying climate activist Greta Thunberg and other international volunteers has reached the Israeli port of Ashdod. The vessel, part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, was intercepted by Israeli authorities before it could reach Gaza. The ship was transporting humanitarian supplies—such as baby formula, medicine, and food.

According to officials, the activists on board, including Thunberg, are expected to be taken to a detention facility near Tel Aviv for processing and eventual deportation. The Israeli government has stated that any aid brought by such flotillas will be redirected through established channels under Israeli control.

The operation has sparked criticism from human rights groups who argue that such blockades and detentions violate international norms. Activists maintain that their mission was peaceful and aimed solely at drawing global attention to the suffering in Gaza, especially in the wake of intensified conflict and humanitarian shortages.

Israel maintains a strict blockade on Gaza, citing security concerns over arms smuggling to militant groups.
