Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju confirmed on July 20 that the government is prepared to debate several sensitive national security issues in the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, set to run from July 21 to August 21. He said the Centre welcomes discussions “with an open heart” on topics flagged by the Opposition—including Operation Sindoor, the Pahalgam terror attack and US President Donald Trump’s assertion that he helped broker a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
Operation Sindoor, launched on the night of May 6–7, was India’s cross‑border military response to the April 22 Pahalgam massacre, which resulted in 26 civilian deaths. The strikes targeted multiple terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan‑administered Kashmir. Trump claimed credit for negotiating a ceasefire effective May 10, a claim that New Delhi has disputed and attributed to bilateral communications between their respective military chiefs.
During an all‑party meeting convened over the weekend, Parliamentarians from across the spectrum indicated that these topics should be on the agenda. Opposition members also plan to raise related issues including Bihar’s electoral roll revision and broader foreign policy concerns.
