Rice water has been a secret ingredient in Korean and East Asian skincare for centuries—and now it's experiencing a major revival among enthusiasts seeking the coveted “glass skin”: clear, smooth, and luminous. Packed with amino acids, antioxidants, phenolic compounds, niacin (B3), B‑, C‑, and E‐vitamins, rice water hydrates pores, brightens uneven tone, softens fine lines, and soothes inflammation.
To make it at home: rinse ½ cup organic rice, soak it in water for 30 minutes until milky, strain, and optionally ferment at room temperature for up to 48 hours. Fermented rice water enhances collagen production and skin elasticity. Store in a clean container in the fridge for up to 5–7 days.
How to use :
- As a toner: pat onto cleansed skin with a cotton pad.
- As a mask: steep cotton pads or cloth in rice water and apply for 15–20 minutes.
- As a mist or rinse: refresh your skin throughout the day for hydration.
Consistency—1–2 times daily—yields the best glow without harsh chemicals. Start with a patch test if your skin is sensitive. Some may experience dryness or irritation if overused.
This DIY rice water routine echoes core K-beauty principles—hydration, gentle nourishment, and layering lightweight nutrients for radiance. It’s a budget-friendly, clean, and effective path to glass-like skin—easy to start in your kitchen and gentle enough to fit every skincare regimen.
