Her work weaves together nature and people. These new forests act as green shields against floods, prevent soil erosion, and attract birds, insects, and animals back to the land. Munmuni’s vision shows how simple acts one tree at a time can grow hope and bring real change. Her journey is a heartfelt reminder: with belief and effort, a greener future is possible.

Twenty‑five‑year‑old Munmuni Payeng has taken up her father’s legacy with heart and action. Growing up on Majuli Island, she saw floods wash away homes and soil. Inspired by Jadav Payeng, who turned barren sand into a thriving forest Munmuni started a bold plan: plant one million native trees across Assam’s flood‑prone areas to heal the land and help communities.
Through her group Seuj Dhoroni, Munmuni brings together schoolchildren, local villagers, and elders from Adivasi communities to join tree‑planting drives. Every tree is chosen for its ability to hold soil, resist floods, and support native wildlife. With local hands on board, forests slowly rise where once only water and sand ruled.
