Gen Z is choosing colleges through Instagram Reels, not rankings anymore!

For Gen Z, choosing a college is no longer about brochures or ranking lists-it's about vibe checks through Instagram Reels and YouTube vlogs. Students today explore colleges by watching dorm tours, day in my life vlogs, and campus fest videos instead of relying only on NIRF or QS rankings.

YouTube creators from top colleges like NYU, UCLA, and even Indian universities like DU and OP Jindal are sharing honest content about real student life-hostel setups, food quality, fest culture, and social freedom. This visual storytelling offers a raw, authentic look at college life, which Gen Z trusts more than polished advertisements.

Instagram adds a visual punch, with short Reels showing campus beauty, flash mobs, and late-night study sessions. Creators like Mahek Dhameja say their videos help students manage expectations and make confident choices. However, the downside is that curated content can build unrealistic expectations.

Still, for many students, these social media glimpses offer comfort and clarity. College is no longer just about ranks-it’s about where you feel you belong. And social media is helping students find that place.
