In 2017, Raj Singh, an engineer and MBA graduate, left his decade-long corporate career to pursue entrepreneurship in Ghaziabad. He started dairy farming with 40 cows on leased land. However, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains, leading to significant losses of nearly ₹60 lakh per month. Faced with mounting challenges, Raj pivoted to vermicomposting, utilizing cow dung to produce organic fertiliser.
Founding 'Growing Tree Organic Pvt Ltd', Raj implemented innovative techniques such as using banana leaves for mulching, creating a natural cooling effect to maintain optimal conditions for earthworms. Unlike others, he allowed a 90-day composting cycle, ensuring high-quality product.
Selling vermicompost at affordable rates of ₹3–₹4.50 per kg, Raj empowered small-scale farmers to adopt organic practices. His enterprise now produces 500 tonnes monthly, generating an annual turnover of ₹2.5 crore. Raj's journey exemplifies resilience and innovation in the face of adversity.
