While the West celebrates Halloween with costumes and pumpkins, India has its own mysterious spirit nights that blend myth, art, and light. From Bengal’s Bhoot Chaturdashi, where families light 14 diyas to ward off dark spirits, to Assam’s Kati Bihu, marking seasonal shifts with glowing bamboo lamps, every tradition reflects India’s deep bond with the unseen.
In North India, Kartik Purnima turns rivers into oceans of light under a full moon, symbolising purity and renewal. Meanwhile, Karnataka’s Bhoota Kola transforms folklore into fiery performances where dancers embody spirits, and Kerala’s Theyyam dazzles with trance-like rituals and vivid masks.
Each festival carries the same essence as Halloween - a play between darkness and light, fear and faith, mystery and art. Instead of trick-or-treats, India’s version celebrates the power of community, storytelling, and cultural spirit that never fades with time.
