E-commerce giant Amazon is preparing to cut as many as 30,000 corporate jobs, representing nearly 10 % of its roughly 350,000 white-collar employees, according to people familiar with the company’s plans.
The layoffs are slated to begin this week and would mark the company’s largest reduction in its corporate workforce since late 2022.
Affected divisions reportedly include human resources (People Experience & Technology), devices and services, operations, logistics, payments and cloud-computing functions.
Andy Jassy’s push to reduce bureaucracy and shift toward automation and artificial-intelligence-driven workflows is a major driver behind the move.
Amazon did not immediately comment on the figures; however, the cuts follow a hiring surge during the pandemic whose scale the company is now scaling back.
For employees, the upcoming notifications and restructuring signal a significant shake-up — one that also reflects broader industry trends for tech companies emphasizing efficiency over expansion.
