An Akasa Air aircraft parked at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport was struck by a cargo truck on July 14, prompting a comprehensive safety inspection. The airline confirmed that the truck belonged to a third-party ground handling agency and made contact with the plane while it was stationary at the gate. No injuries were reported, but the airline has launched a thorough investigation into the incident.
Akasa Air has commissioned a full structural and systems check to ensure the aircraft remains safe for service. The airline is working closely with the ground handler to ascertain the cause of the mishap and prevent any future occurrences. The incident did not disrupt flight schedules. Akasa Air emphasized that passenger safety remains its top priority and stated that they will only return the aircraft to service once all inspections are satisfactorily completed .
This incident highlights the importance of stringent operating protocols and coordination between airlines and third-party agencies at busy airport ramps. Authorities and airport management are expected to review ground operations to reinforce safety standards and prevent similar incidents.
