An Air India flight operating from Bali to Delhi (AI 2146) was diverted to Varanasi late Tuesday after bad weather conditions over Delhi caused a significant drop in visibility, making it unsafe for landing.
According to airline officials, the pilot made the decision mid-air after being notified of severe weather activity near Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Thunderstorms, heavy clouds, and low visibility created hazardous conditions, prompting several delays and diversions across the airport.
Upon arrival in Varanasi, the aircraft was refueled, and passengers were kept informed of the delay. The flight resumed its journey to Delhi once conditions improved and clearance was given by air traffic control.
This incident highlights the impact of India's ongoing monsoon weather system, which has caused widespread flight disruptions in recent days. Air India stated that passenger safety remains its top priority, and such diversions are standard procedure under adverse conditions.
Travelers are advised to check flight statuses regularly and be prepared for sudden schedule changes during the monsoon season.
