Air India boeing 787 safety scare: 9 planes cleared - But your flight might be delayed!

Air India has completed mandatory safety inspections on nine Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets following the tragic AI171 crash in Ahmedabad, the airline confirmed. These one-time checks, ordered by the DGCA, include thorough assessments of take‑off parameters, electronic engine controls, fuel systems, cabin air diagnostics, and hydraulic systems .

While Air India asserts the fleet remains in operation, it warns that these checks may extend aircraft turnaround time - leading to possible flight delays on long‑haul routes, especially at curfew-sensitive airports . The remaining 24 Dreamliners are expected to be inspected within the regulator’s set timeline . Passengers affected by delays will be offered refunds or complimentary rescheduling.

These inspections are part of a broader investigation into the crash, with authorities focusing on potential issues involving engine thrust, flap settings, and landing gear prematurely open at takeoff. Boeing and GE Aerospace have joined the probe, while DGCA continues enhanced oversight
