Ongoing Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have killed at least 34 Palestinians, including civilians, amid widespread humanitarian strain. The strikes reportedly targeted multiple locations, resulting in both civilian casualties and damage to aid infrastructure. This latest escalation comes as desperation in Gaza intensifies—aid deliveries are severely disrupted, and UN agencies say hundreds have died while trying to secure food. Reports suggest looting and violence around aid convoys have further escalated the crisis.
U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed optimism that a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas could be reached within a week, citing active negotiations. However, tangible progress remains uncertain; past efforts have faltered, and violence has continued even when diplomatic efforts were underway .
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has strongly criticized humanitarian arrangements supported by Israel and the U.S., describing them as "inherently unsafe" and warning that aid distribution is becoming perilous, even deadly. Meanwhile, Israeli authorities have opened investigations into potential war crimes after allegations surfaced that troops fired on Palestinians near aid sites.
With Gaza’s people caught between dwindling aid and ongoing bombardments, the possibility of a truce offers hope—but the path remains uncertain and fraught.
