At least 33 people—most of them children—have died of malnutrition in Gaza over the past 48 hours, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, raising the total hunger-related deaths in the conflict to 101 since October 2023, including 80 children.
Philippe Lazzarini, head of UNRWA, described Gaza as “hell on earth,” warning that not even aid workers are spared: “Caretakers… UNRWA staff are hungry. Many are now fainting due to hunger and exhaustion while performing their duties”. UN officials also say doctors, nurses, and journalists are collapsing amid famine-like conditions.
The Norwegian Refugee Council confirms that aid stocks have been fully depleted, with some of its staff suffering starvation after 145 days without resupply—hundreds of trucks with relief supplies are blocked and stranded outside Gaza.
Moreover, the World Health Organization reports that its facilities in Deir al‑Balah have been attacked, further obstructing efforts to respond to the health emergency.
With over 2 million residents facing extreme hunger under siege and famine-like conditions, the UN warns of a deepening humanitarian catastrophe. Aid agencies and international leaders are calling for immediate access to food, water, medical care—and protection for civilians and relief staff.
