In today's screen-dominated world, your skin is under constant assault-not just from sunlight, but from blue light emitted by devices like smartphones, laptops, and LED lighting. Experts warn that blue light penetrates even deeper than UV rays, reaching the skin’s dermis layer where collagen and elastin live. This can lead to premature ageing, pigmentation, and a weakened skin barrier.
Gunjan Sharma, Co-Founder of Lumaè, explains that blue light exposure for eight hours is as harmful as 20 minutes in direct sun without sunscreen. The solution lies in a digital-age skincare routine. Key ingredients like astaxanthin, niacinamide, green tea, iron oxides, and lutein can help protect and repair your skin.
Akanksha Vishnoi, Co-Founder of YesMadam, suggests using sunscreen with HEV or blue light protection indoors, incorporating antioxidant-rich skincare, and trying LED facials or HydraFacials. Even simple changes like enabling night mode or following the 20-20-20 rule (look 20 feet away every 20 minutes for 20 seconds) can ease the stress on your skin.
In a world where screen time is unavoidable, protecting your skin from digital damage is no longer optional—it’s essential.
