The White House has officially joined TikTok, launching its handle @whitehouse on Tuesday evening with a striking opening video featuring President Donald Trump declaring, “I am your voice.” The post was paired with the caption, “America, we are BACK! What’s up TikTok?” .
The move underscores the administration’s effort to directly connect with younger, digitally active audiences - particularly the 170 million U.S. TikTok users. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the platform will allow Trump’s messages on governance and policy achievements to reach citizens in “more engaging and creative ways.”
The decision is notable given Trump’s earlier attempts to ban TikTok in 2020, citing security risks. A 2024 U.S. law requiring TikTok’s U.S. operations to be sold or face a ban still looms, though enforcement has been delayed until mid-September.
By embracing TikTok now, the administration is signaling a shift - leveraging the very app once targeted for removal to build political influence and expand outreach.
