Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Phase One of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) on October 8, marking a milestone in India’s aviation expansion. The ₹19,650 crore project, developed by Adani Airports, is expected to handle 20 million passengers annually in its first phase and ease congestion at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
The new terminal features advanced check-in systems, sustainable architecture, and high-speed connectivity to Mumbai via metro and expressways. PM Modi toured the facility before unveiling the airport plaque and dedicating it to the nation.
Alongside the airport launch, Modi introduced “Mumbai One”, India’s first integrated mobility app that enables commuters to book and pay for journeys across 11 transport systems — including metro, bus, suburban trains, and monorail — through a single digital platform.
The dual launch symbolizes India’s push toward modern, interconnected infrastructure — blending physical expansion with digital convenience to support the country’s fastest-growing urban corridor.
