Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has raised pointed questions about the Iran–Israel conflict, asking, "What exactly did Iran do to provoke Israel?" His remarks come amid escalating tensions in the region and mounting concerns over the safety of Indian nationals. Abdullah highlighted that more than 6,000 Indians are currently stranded, caught in the crossfire of hostilities that extend far beyond Iran and Israel.
The conflict intensified following Israel’s strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and Iran’s reciprocal missile-and-drone response. In response, the Indian government launched Operation Sindhu on June 18 to evacuate Indian citizens from Iran, successfully airlifting at least 110 people to safety in Armenia. While the initial evacuations are underway, thousands more remain in limbo, forcing India to balance urgent rescue efforts with diplomatic neutrality.
Abdullah's challenge to Tehran underscores the severity of the situation and reflects growing impatience with the humanitarian consequences of proxy wars. His words serve as a reminder: the real crisis now lies in protecting Indian lives amid a broader geopolitical storm.
