In a significant humanitarian move amid rising Middle East tensions, Iran has opened its airspace to India, enabling the evacuation of approximately 1,000 Indian students stranded in the country. The decision marks a departure from Iran's usual restrictions in times of regional flare-ups, indicating a willingness to support humanitarian cooperation even during conflict.
This development comes as tensions soar between Iran and Israel, prompting the Indian Government to launch Operation Sindhu, aimed at rescuing nationals caught in the crossfire. Already, 110 students have been safely flown to Delhi, with more evacuation flights planned via Armenia and Turkmenistan.
Iran's airspace clearance will greatly enhance India’s evacuation logistics, speeding up departures and improving safety for those still in Iran. This step provides much-needed relief to the families and underscores India's diplomatic success in protecting its citizens abroad. With over 4,000 Indians still in Iran - including students, pilgrims, and professionals—the move offers hope amid a crisis zone.
