As tensions between Iran and Israel threaten to spiral into a broader conflict, the Indian government is set to meet key stakeholders to evaluate the potential impact on the country’s trade. Exporters have raised alarms, warning that further escalation could severely disrupt global supply chains and send both air and sea freight rates soaring.
The Ministry of Commerce is expected to consult with trade associations, logistics firms, and exporters to discuss contingency measures. With the Strait of Hormuz - a vital oil and shipping route - under threat, India’s energy imports and outbound shipments could face serious delays and cost spikes.
Experts say the geopolitical unrest could hit sectors ranging from pharmaceuticals and electronics to textiles and petroleum. Many exporters are already reporting early signs of shipment delays and rising insurance costs.
The Centre’s proactive approach highlights growing concern over the vulnerability of India’s trade routes to global tensions. All eyes are now on the outcome of these high-stakes discussions.
