In response to heavy rainfall in Jharkhand and Odisha's Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts, the Subarnarekha, Jalaka, and Baitarani rivers have risen significantly, posing flood threats in northern Odisha. The state’s water resources department is operating its flood cell 24/7, with district collectors in Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore alerted for evacuation and relief efforts.
Subarnarekha river has surpassed its danger mark at Jamsholaghat, with water discharged from Galudih barrage in Jharkhand adding to the rising levels, threatening low-lying areas in Bhograi, Baliapal, and Jaleswar. Jalaka river has inundated villages in Basta block, submerging roads and isolating communities, while Baitarani river is rising steadily, posing a risk to Jajpur and Bhadrak districts.
The government has canceled all official leaves, deploying disaster response teams, including ODRAF and NDRF, with rescue boats. Evacuations are underway, and cyclone shelters are prepared for use if necessary.
This swift and organized response highlights Odisha's commitment to safeguarding its citizens during natural calamities.
