On August 6, 2025, the Supreme Court granted interim relief to YouTuber Elvish Yadav, staying all trial court proceedings pending his challenge to the chargesheet and summons. A bench led by Justices M M Sundresh and Joymalya Bagchi issued notices to both the Uttar Pradesh government and complainant Gaurav Gupta.
Yadav is accused under multiple statutes - including the Wildlife (Protection) Act, IPC, and NDPS Act—for allegedly supplying snake venom for use at rave parties, including to foreigners. The controversy began with an FIR lodged in Noida in November 2023, followed by a charge-sheet in April 2024 detailing alleged drug and wildlife offences.
The Allahabad High Court had rejected Yadav’s plea to quash the case in May 2025, stressing that his popularity does not equate to legal immunity. Yadav’s counsel argued that no venom, narcotics, or snakes were recovered, and that the FIR lacked legal standing due to procedural flaws. These arguments will now be examined in the Supreme Court.
This stay provides temporary relief, with final hearing scheduled for August 29, as the legal battle continues to unfold.
