Pakistan has formally nominated former U.S. President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his “decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership” in the recent India–Pakistan crisis. The announcement, made via the platform X, praised Trump’s role in helping defuse tensions following intense military exchanges in early May.
Trump’s nomination came shortly after hosting Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, at the White House. That meeting reportedly included Munir’s suggestion that Trump be considered for the Nobel honor, recognizing his alleged mediation in the conflict. Pakistan’s foreign ministry also offered gratitude for Trump’s involvement in reaching a ceasefire understanding after India’s “Operation Sindoor”.
However, India's government has strongly rejected the premise of external mediation, asserting that the May ceasefire was achieved through direct bilateral military channels. Prime Minister Modi’s office emphasized that contact was exclusively via national leadership and military communication, with no third-party interference .
Trump has self‑promoted his role in brokering peace, insisting he merits the Nobel Prize and listing his involvement in other peace efforts globally. While this marks Pakistan’s official support, it remains uncertain if the Nobel Committee will consider the nomination.
