Legends shape India’s calendars of time, truly unique!

India’s tapestry of timekeeping is woven from both practicality and mythology. The Saka calendar, officially adopted in 1957, marks a conscious move post-independence to establish a national timekeeping system rooted in indigenous tradition rather than colonial legacy. Yet this is only one among many: Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs, Muslims, and regional communities across North and South India observe calendars tied to their religious and cultural rhythms.
