Kerala is trailblazing a fresh form of tourism: the “startup pod” work-cation experience, developed jointly by Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) and the state's tourism department, set to debut in Varkala, a favorite among tech professionals.
The three-storied workpod will be constructed on tourism department land near Varkala’s government guest house, with an estimated budget of ₹6 crore. Inside, visitors will find a high-speed internet connection, 24×7 access, state-of-the-art meeting rooms, and all other essentials to work, innovate, or brainstorm while being immersed in Kerala’s scenic charm.
KSUM CEO Anoop P Ambika confirmed the project is in its final phase, with completion expected in about eight months. Startups already showing commitment four have stepped forward to invest and will soon help finalize the design.
By merging remote work with leisure, Kerala aims to attract entrepreneurs and tech talent globally, making tourism a canvas for innovation, creative entrepreneurship, and high-impact collaboration
