In India, companies are increasingly turning to AI to streamline recruitment. Tools for resume screening, candidate-matching algorithms, and chatbots are being used by around 60% of organisations to automate early hiring stages, speeding up processes and reducing manual effort.
Platforms like Indeed and others report greater use of skills-based hiring over formal qualifications, helped by AI-driven matching of candidate profiles with job descriptions. Also, 87% of Indian jobseekers now use generative AI tools to improve their resumes.
However, readiness is far from perfect. Bias in training data persists, historical hiring patterns risk being replicated, and transparency in AI decisions is often low. Applicants are more skeptical in India than in places like New Zealand about whether AI reduces discrimination.
For India to fully leverage AI in recruitment, stronger ethical guidelines, explainable AI systems, data privacy safeguards, and human oversight are essential. Without these, the promise of faster, fairer hiring may fall short.
