In a major boost to India's healthcare infrastructure, the government is set to integrate the Rare Blood Donor Registry with the e-Rakt Kosh platform, streamlining access to life-saving blood for individuals with uncommon blood types. Developed under the National Health Mission (NHM), this integration will create a centralized digital system where patients, hospitals, and blood banks can easily locate rare blood donors across the country.
Rare blood types - such as Bombay phenotype or Rh-null - are difficult to match and often unavailable during emergencies. This move will ensure faster coordination by providing real-time data on blood availability, donor locations, and upcoming donation camps through the e-Rakt Kosh portal.
Healthcare experts have hailed the initiative as a critical step toward saving lives, especially in trauma cases, complex surgeries, and rare disease treatments. With digitization improving transparency and efficiency in the blood supply chain, India is moving closer to a robust, inclusive, and tech-enabled healthcare system.
