At the 2025 Met Gala, Punjabi artist Diljit Dosanjh made a striking debut, donning a custom Prabal Gurung ensemble that paid homage to his heritage. His attire featured traditional elements like a turban, kurta-tehmat, a cape with Gurmukhi script, and a ceremonial sword, evoking the regal aura of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala.
In an effort to deepen this tribute, Dosanjh's stylist, Abhilasha Devnani, sought to borrow the historic Patiala Necklace-commissioned by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh in 1928 and crafted by Cartier. This opulent piece originally showcased over 2,900 diamonds, including the 234.65-carat De Beers diamond, making it one of the most extravagant necklaces ever created. However, the request was declined as the necklace remains securely housed in a museum.
Undeterred, the team collaborated with Indian jeweller Golecha to design accessories inspired by the Maharaja’s collection, including a distinctive turban brooch that complemented the ensemble’s royal flair.
