Indian astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who flew aboard the Axiom Mission 4 to the International Space Station, is scheduled to undock on July 14, with a splashdown off the California coast at 3 PM IST on July 15, according to ISRO and NASA . His journey included 14 days in orbit, over 230 Earth orbits, and completion of multiple microgravity experiments essential for future Indian space missions .
Upon return, Shukla will participate in a seven-day rehabilitation program under ISRO’s flight surgeons to help his body readjust to Earth’s gravity . This phase will focus on physical recovery, cardiovascular assessments, and vestibular balance, crucial after extended exposure to microgravity.
The Axiom-4 mission marks India’s continued presence in international human spaceflight and furthers preparations for ISRO’s Gaganyaan mission. Shukla left ISS after successfully completing four of seven ISRO-led experiments, with the remaining three nearing wrap-up . His safe return and rehab will be watched closely by ISRO and the nation, underscoring a pivotal moment in India’s space exploration journey.
