In a moment that captivated the nation, Inspector Adaso Kapesa was seen standing poised behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to the UK. Her composed presence marked a breakthrough: she is the first woman ever appointed to the Special Protection Group (SPG) India’s premier elite security force.
Hailing from Kaibi village in Manipur’s Senapati district, Kapesa originally served with the 55th Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. Following rigorous selection and commando training, she was inducted into the male-dominated SPG, marking an important milestone for gender inclusivity in Indian security services.
Her visibility has resonated deeply online many called her a “trailblazer,” “symbol of strength,” and an inspiring figure, especially for women from the Northeast. More than a historic moment, Kapesa's role signals a transformative shift proof that elite security roles are defined not by gender, but by excellence, courage, and unwavering service
