The government is planning to bring Ayurveda into mainstream health education in schools and colleges, Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav announced.
The move aims to familiarize the younger generation with holistic health principles through specially designed course modules. Discussions are underway with NCERT and UGC to develop the curriculum for school and higher education.
Several states, including Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh, have already incorporated the Indian knowledge system into school programs. The Ministry is also emphasizing evidence-based research, with high-quality clinical trials conducted by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) and partnerships with WHO to strengthen scientific credibility.
Jadhav highlighted that Allopathy and AYUSH systems are complementary, not competitors. Under the National AYUSH Mission, doctors are being deployed in rural and remote areas to enhance primary healthcare access. Over the last decade, initiatives like International Yoga Day, AYUSH Chairs, and WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine have given India’s traditional medicine a global identity, promoting integration, research, and standardized education.
This initiative signals a major step toward an integrated, evidence-backed healthcare model, balancing traditional wisdom with modern medicine for better public health outcomes.
