What really happened in LSR's lecture Hall? Students call out 'Misogyny'!

Students of Delhi University’s Lady Shri Ram (LSR) College have condemned a lecture by former diplomat Deepak Vohra, calling his comments “misogynistic, derogatory, Islamophobic and queerphobic.” The event, titled Unstoppable India 2047 and organised by the BA Programme Department on September 11, was meant to discuss India’s future but soon drew sharp criticism from attendees. According to the LSR Students’ Union, Vohra made remarks about “four wives,” joked about the principal, and implied women’s roles should primarily be as wives and mothers.

Students also flagged a slide titled “Bharat’s Four Azaadis” that framed the Ram Temple consecration as a form of “freedom,” which they criticized as carrying communal undertones. The backlash prompted the department to clarify that Vohra’s opinions were personal and did not represent its views.

Facing criticism, Vohra issued an “unconditional apology” to the principal, saying he regretted any hurt caused. Students, however, continue to demand accountability and stronger vetting of guest speakers
