Many smartphone users are now noticing that Do Not Disturb (DND) mode is no longer fully blocking calls, notifications, or app alerts. Even after enabling the feature, phones continue vibrating, lighting up, or allowing certain notifications during sleep, meetings, or work hours.
Experts say the issue is linked to changing smartphone habits and increasingly complex notification systems. Modern devices now include multiple focus modes, app-specific permissions, AI-based notification priorities, repeated-call exceptions, smartwatch syncing, and automated schedules that can override normal DND settings.
Another growing issue is notification overload. Many apps request “priority access,” allowing alerts to bypass silent settings completely. Social media, delivery, and messaging apps are especially known for sending high-priority notifications that interrupt users frequently.
Tech experts recommend checking DND exception settings regularly, removing unnecessary app permissions, disabling repeated-call options, and reviewing automated schedules. Restarting the phone and updating software can also help fix glitches.
Key highlights:
- Apps can bypass DND using priority notifications
- Smartwatch syncing may interfere with silent modes
- Repeated-call settings often allow calls through
- Multiple focus modes can create confusion
- Notification overload is increasing digital stress
