Love window seats? This could damage your skin!

Window seats may offer the best views, but they also come with a hidden risk most people ignore. At high altitudes, the atmosphere is thinner, which means more ultraviolet (UV) radiation reaches the aircraft. While plane windows block most UVB rays, they still allow a significant amount of UVA rays to pass through.
These UVA rays go deeper into the skin and are linked to premature ageing, tanning, and long-term skin damage. The exposure is stronger during daytime flights, especially if sunlight is directly hitting your window.
For occasional travellers, the risk isn’t extreme, but it’s still worth being careful. Simple steps like applying sunscreen, lowering the window shade, or wearing full sleeves can reduce exposure.
So next time you pick a window seat, enjoy the view-but don’t ignore your skin. A small precaution can make a big difference.
