Students across thousands of schools and universities faced major disruption after reports claimed popular education platform Canvas suffered a large-scale cyberattack. The breach allegedly affected institutions in the US and other countries, raising concerns over student data security and online learning systems.
According to reports, hacker group “ShinyHunters” claimed responsibility for the attack and threatened to leak stolen information if demands were not met. Several universities reportedly experienced login failures, disrupted coursework access, and technical outages during an important academic period.
The leaked data may include names, email addresses, student ID numbers, and conversations between teachers and students. However, financial details, passwords, and government identification records were reportedly not exposed.
Canvas is widely used by schools and colleges for assignments, exams, grading, and communication, making the incident especially alarming for students and educators. Institutions are now monitoring systems closely while cybersecurity teams investigate the scale of the breach and work to restore secure access for affected users worldwide.
